What you're actually buying

It is not the cheapest hashrate we sell At $500 for 15 TH/s stock the KBuddy is about $33 per terahash, and about $28 at the 18 TH maximum clock. The KBeast is $24 and the Magic Miner 40T is $16. What you pay for here is the smallest finished, quiet, enclosed GekkoScience appliance, made in America, at the lowest entry price in the K series.
It is a heater as much as a miner Roughly 200 to 300W of electricity goes in and the same comes out as heat. That is a small space heater. In winter it is the best argument for the machine.
Mining is a lottery in solo mode Point it at a pool and it pays steadily and small. Run it solo and it pays in whole blocks or not at all. 15 TH/s gives you a real, recurring shot. It does not guarantee one.

Questions people ask

How loud is it?

Speed controlled fans in a fully enclosed case, same design language as the KBOX which meters between 38 and 47 dB depending on preset. At 200W the KBuddy has less heat to move than the KBOX, so expect it at the quiet end of that range. We will publish a metered number when review units land.

How much power does it pull?

Around 200W at the wall at the stock setting and up to 300W at the maximum clock. An ordinary wall socket on a normal cord, no dedicated circuit.

Do I need a special outlet?

No. The power supply is built in and takes 120 or 240VAC, so it plugs into an ordinary wall socket anywhere in the world with a normal cord. There is an on/off switch on the unit.

How do I set it up?

Plug it in, connect Ethernet or join it to your 2.4 or 5GHz WiFi, open the web page it serves on your network, and enter your pool or solo mining details. The integrated Linux controller handles the rest, with live charts and settings in the browser.

What happens if a fan fails?

Hashing stops. Both fans are monitored and the unit will not run hot with a dead fan. There are also independent fuses on the mains supply and on the hashboard DC bus, software limits on ASIC temperature and a hardware limit on the main voltage regulator.

Is it safe around kids and pets?

The case is fully enclosed steel and aluminium with no exposed electronics, and the faceplate is a 7mm hexagonal grid sized so small fingers cannot get through.
